One would think that the a product’s success is directly proportional to the amount of complexity that it offers. In other words, majority of people think that a software product could be successfull only if it buries the user with complex features and functionalities. However it has been proven that the rule of thumb is simplicity of a product is what makes it successfull! Take the case of Google search engine. Its simple search interface still retains it as #1 search engine.
The focus should be on how to maximize benefits using essential feature sets. Build the product roadmap in such a way that it is carefully focussed on vision and not a place to dump all features. Involve the user in product features reviews so appropriate feedback is routed to product improvements.
